Taken before the pestilence

Life is a steady bridge from our past into our future. (Copyright Matilda Jinadu)

My dear did you know

A year and a month

After you had to go

A virus was unleashed

And the whole world took heed

Face masks and gloves

Adorned the shops and faces of all

Food hidden, then hoarded

By those that were haunted

By the prospect of lack

An unknown virus moving fast

Survival mode in full gear

As handshakes and hugs

Evaporated from our towns

Replaced by the stare of strangers

Distant hugs of friends alike

Elbow touch or the gentlemanly nod

Yet some strangers now smile

When we go out on your walk

It's a kind of weird

My dear, you were spared…

Who would have thought

A pandemic would strike

In this lifetime you just exit

Who would have thought

You would be taken?

Taken before the pestilence
