The unfolding
All the different pieces and experiences mingle together in unison, as they unfold…
Who am I? -I ask myself
In a moment of inquisitive exploration
When the answers come as fast as the questions are asked
And so I heard myself say
I am the daughter
Who kept my word
The sister who erred but made peace quickly,
I am she who loves endlessly, always, whether right or wrong
I am the friend who faithful ones call loyal
The wife of his youth and old age Selah!
The mother of two baby boys now men
And countless others, who call me “mum”
I am the mother standing over this fruitful legacy unfolding
The aunt who never forgets
The cousin who held your hand
In crisis and joy my grip -the same
I am the girl who found expression in poetry
On those dark candlelit nights in Ijesha
The one now unravelling what was kept hidden
Manuscripts of my heart and mind
I am the one still singing an ageless tune
Despite and in spite of life's scars
I am the one creating a poetic melody
Giving flight to words kept buried no more
The Warrior Princess of Tilly whispers
I am the unfolding…
